LotteryCan Christians play the lottery?

Is the lottery a form of gambling?

If you win, should the church accept your tithes from the prize money?

What does the word of God say about this?

  1. It is nothing wrong with playing the lottery if you don't become one of those guys or gals who goes and wastes 500 a month and neglects to feed his family and or himself. My only problem would be if the money goes to something that detracts from God. Some public education can do that sometimes, but other times it would not, in fact it could do the opposite in some circumstances. I only say this because of how one sided our public education system is on morals these days. But scratchers tickets are the best bet in this case because the line has already been drawn at how much can be brought in. The only problem with scratchers is that they can get very addictive very quickly. But if you find some way to limit yourself, it would not be a sin of addiction or a risk to your families welfare.
  2. Well I dont play the lottery however, Whats the difference in a church raffling off T.V.'s and other gifts like gift cards. Now in order to win you have to purchase a ticket and if your ticket is called you win. Someone help me. Some say that lottery is wicked but the bible says that he will take the wealth out of the hands the wicked and place it in the hands of the rightous
  3. :-)Hello Christian friends,

God gives us freedom to do what we want; so all we need to
do is to use this freedom wisely.

If you think money is more important than God, then whatever you do, playing lottery or working for a
    company to earn your bread and butter, is NOT correct;
because you don't put God in the first and topmost
    rank in your life.
You become slave to whatever you do and they (not God)
    become your masters!

On the other hand, if such activities mentioned above
are secondary when comparing to God's place in your
life, then there is no harm to pursue them.

    John J M.
  4. Timothy 6:10 tells us, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." Hebrews 13:5 declares, "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." Matthew 6:24 proclaims, "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."
  5. The church will gladly accept your ten percent if you won the lottery. It will prbably be more than your pastor claiming your membership just to get your tithes.According to the preachers you shouldnt play it because the likelyhood of you winning is slim........until you win then it turns into a move of God.Why not play? If you invest your money in the stock market its just like the lottery. The only fools that dont win are the ones that dont play!!
  6. This is a pretty good topic because I recently dealt with this issue last year when a person who worked for me bought me a Big Game Ticket and said if I win just pay his house off. I had never played it before and I found out how to get the numbers and that week nobody won and it went up to like 200million and I found myself playing every week. I stopped playing because I was beginning to see that I was not honoring God. The Bible says that 1st Cor 10:31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. The words that stands out to me in this scripture is "Whatever You Do"

To make it simple as possible all we have to do is read 1st Corr 11:1 "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ". Let's be honest and ask the question would Jesus play the Lottery. The answer is No.

People Play the Lottery because they don't want to be a good steward. Proverbs 13:11 Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.
  7. Everyone seems to think that playing the lottery is a sin, yet I can't find any place in the bible that states that.
  8. I think church should have a lottery pool and then have a special fast and prayer service to ask favor to win the lottery so we can stop paying building fund!! LOL Just kidding, dont get on me super saints! I dont play the lottery for moral reasons. I try to not just avoid sin, but also avoid things and situations that "point to" sin.
  9. (continued) I think we should "give/ sow" just because its our reasonable service and for the up-building of the kingdom of God. As for the lotto, Neechy you hit on a big one here! Idk, I guess we shouldn't play? However, the thought has crossed my mind B4. Then you have it to where, what if God wanted to use it as a means to get hundreds of thousands, if not millions to the ppl of God? & its so funny b/c we were just talkin about this "lotto" subject the other day - where this man just so happened to be led into a store. He had never once played, but PLAYED and won Millions! So who knows. & For the record I haven't played, and don't plan on it. Just gone keep trusting God! The "what if" thought has crossed my mind..... I think that's natural.
  10. C. Bostic - Carl... even after they ask for the $10 they go on to say "get out your best offering." My question is, isn't that what they should've said in the begindin'? (Brown.. lol!) Yeah, truthfully offerings/ tithes are supposed to be a "form of worship" unto God meaning it should be according to ones relationship with Him and their faith! But the ppl of God don't trust like they should. I ain't gone even lie, I've been there, done that myself and once I started trusting Him for real and paying them regularly, all kinds of doors started opening. I think a lot of times saints also have the uncunning nack to treat God like a "Ginney in a bottle." He's not at all!
