Donald Lawrence Has Biggest First Week Sales Of His Career
Music - Gospel
donald lawrenceGospel’s ground-breaking singer, songwriter and producer Donald Lawrence has earned the biggest first week sales of his career to date with the release of his sophomore solo CD The Law of Confession, Part 1 (Quiet Water/ Zomba Gospel). His first solo set since 2004, the new project has come in at #2 on Billboard magazine’s gospel album sales chart. It’s also his first project to land in the Billboard Hot 100 Albums chart where it’s landed at #71. It also was  #1 on the itunes Christian/Gospel chart last week, The festive, soulful radio single “Back II Eden” is currently #8 with a bullet on Billboard’s Hot Gospel songs chart.

The new project is receiving wide critical praise and on-the-street buzz. The March issue of Ebony magazine calls the CD a “recording that is sure to elevate him to a new level of gospel success.” Gerald Bonner of the online portal GospelFlava.com wrote, “There simply aren’t enough words to fully capture the power of this effort. Perhaps, the most amazing part is that in the midst of incredible vocal and musical presentation, the central theme of this effort is by no means lost.” In addition, there have been hundreds of emails to Lawrence’s Facebook page as well as public comments hailing the project on amazon.com and itunes message boards.

"Even though it's a gospel album, this is really for everybody," Lawrence recently told Billboard magazine. "It's a universal type of teaching based on spiritual principles. I've had a lot of people that said, 'Donald, that's the most life-changing thing I've ever experienced.'"

Lawrence produced four out of the Top 5 songs on Billboard magazine’s 2007 Year-End Hot Gospel Songs chart: “Encourage Yourself” by The Tri-City Singers, “Faithful is Our God” by Hezekiah Walker & the Love Fellowship Choir, “Let Go” by Dewayne Woods and “Blessed and Highly Favored” by the Clark Sisters. Since retiring from the Tri-City Singers in 2007 after 16 years as their leader, Lawrence has begun to do more solo work. This coming fall, he will return as host of Verizon Wireless’ “How Sweet the Sound” national choir competition.
