Two of R&B’s biggest balladeers, Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle, have reunited. The duo that recorded the #1 pop smash “A Whole New World” from the animated film “Aladdin”, have recorded their first song together since recording that Grammy and Oscar winning classic in 1992.Bryson and Belle have recorded a new version of Richard Smallwood’s chestnut “Total Praise” for Time Life Music’s new “Songs 4 Worship Soul” CD that features new renditions of gospel songs by classic soul artists ranging from Jody Watley to Ruben Studdard. There’s more information on the Stellar project at www.timelife.com. “We were trying to think about what the song meant to us,” says Bryson. “We were talking about all the little things that we take for granted every single day that we don’t give God the absolute praise for. This is just to remind us that this a more thorough way to thank Him.” It’s the first time that Bryson has recorded a true gospel song, although, he’s recorded spiritually-theme songs such as “God Don’t Like Ugly” with Roberta Flack in 1980 and “God is On Our Side” from his 1976 debut LP. Belle, who is best-known for her gems like “Make It Like it Was”, enjoyed one of the biggest gospel songs of 2008 with the smash hit “God is Good” which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart. “Total Praise Biblically is a walk. It’s a way of life,” says Belle. “In other words, its not that lip service. People say hallelujah is the highest praise but that’s not it. The highest praise is how you live. That’s how you give your highest praise to God is if you live and walk in His way.” How do they feel about the reunion? “There are favorite artists and favorite artists,” says Bryson. “Regina Belle is one of my favorite artists to work with at any time and any place. We know each other very well and I think we compliment each other very well.” Belle agrees. “It is wonderful being back with my friend,” she says of Bryson. “We’ve done a lot of duets together. It’s wonderful seeing as we both love Jesus, to be able to have an opportunity now to give Him praise in this song. I’m very happy to do it.”
